Just glimpse inside your heart for a while longer, my beloved, my country!

Sahir Ludhianvi (1921-1980) translated from the Hindi-Urdu by Alverston & Associates

(Pages 384-385)

Just glimpse inside your heart for a while longer, my beloved, my country!

You may be going back and forth between identities physically

Like the histories within Qila Derawar and concerning the Indo-European languages

From the Sanskrit meaning noble, Aryan is now unstably balancing on the brinks

Due to the racialists who desecrated and dishonored for their own cruelties

Whatever you may or may not be or become, you are the offspring of this earth!

Disentangle yourself from the entanglements of color and race

You have touch bottom enough, now is the time to get a hold of yourself!

If you are unable to erase hatred from your heart, vassalage will return to the homeland.

For the sake of mindfulness of your destructive past, find for yourself a new way ahead.

Just glimpse inside your heart for a while longer, my beloved, my country!

And there is no need to attempt to cover up your faults, let’s face yours and mine together, my country!

Just glimpse inside your heart for a while longer, my beloved, my country!
