[“Response To The
Status Quo’s Injustices”]
Entering my own home, I have become a stranger.
After sensing my presence, my soul has become terrified.
With Dread, every Hope has retired into the corners.
The grief upon the face has snuffed out the flame,
That even Zeal cannot recognize Grief.
Desire has surrendered its head upon the threshold and died.
I left my home in search of which country?
Upon arrival, I became a foreigner in my own home.
Gulzar (18 August 1936 – age 76), Academy Award winning
songwriter who wrote the acclaimed lyrics for Best Original Song “Jai Ho” from Slumdog Millionaire (2008).
