Civilizations, Doctrines, Mankind [Sahir Ludhianvi]

Sahir Ludhianvi’s “Waqt” (page 383)… “Time” as translated from the Urdu by Manfred Spencer Alverston & Associates.

Where Happiness dwelled in times gone by,

Today that dwelling lays grief-stricken.

Time delivered the pleasure of spring,

Now time steers the sorrow of autumn.

With the time come day and night,

With the time come tomorrow and yesterday.

How many civilizations were disgraced before time,

How many doctrines were erased before time?

Through the circulation of time, the resultant celestial body blueprints

Collide under the big-bang modeled time, whether it is a government

Or whether it is a society [pluralism is preeminent].

All the passings of splendor are bound by time,

Time is a bed of flowers [Guru Nanak], time is the crown of thorns [Jesus Christ],

For mankind should remain uncertain of time,

Not knowing the moment time will change its temperament once more.
